Cameroun

Hyperion Global has been active in the CEMAC region, mostly in Cameroun (the largest Economy in CEMAC) since the acquisition of CDS Private Equity, a New Zealand company, in May 2014. CDS Private Equity (CDSPL) had been active in Cameroun since 2009. CDSPL holds a Sovereign B to G program with the Cameroun Government to invest in the partial invigoration of Cameroun’s Coco and Coffee Sector. That program is summarized in the following point 1.

1. Hyperion will invest Euro 133 million in this program that will include the building and development of a new production facility for the propagation of new Cocoa and Coffee plant stocks in partnership with SODECAO: The State entity responsible for propagating and growing seedlings for these sectors; and add much needed low-cost finance for investment in farm consumables and machinery.
2. Stage two of Hyperion’s investment in the Cocoa and Coffee is new, and involves a program for the identification and plotting, utilizing geo-referencing tools, of all Cocoa and Coffee Orchards to meet the EU regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR), a regulation that came into effect from the 23rd of June 2023 with three main goals:
   • To make sure that the products that Europeans buy and use don’t harm forests in the EU and around the world.
   • To reduce the pollution caused by making and using these products in the EU by at least 32 million metric tons every year.
   • To stop deforestation caused by making these products and to fix any damage done to forests.

Hyperion will invest Euro 150 million in this program, a program that is critical to the long term survivable of these sectors should the EU remain the main market for Cameroun Cocoa and Coffee.

Additionally, and as part of Hyperion’s Green Bond program, Hyperion has an emerging Forestry Bond program for the sustainable development of the country’s heritage and commercial rain forestry.
